Please Meet Our Staff
Founder, Program Director
Mei obtained her Bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Chongqing University, a Master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Saskatchewan, and an MBA from the Ivey School of Business of Western University.
Fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese, Mei’s work experiences include teaching college level mathematics for four years in China and Canada. After earning her MBA, Mei worked the financial industry/Wall Street for a dozen years, specializing in corporate credit analysis and credit risk portfolio management.
Mei and her husband live in Rockland County, New York, where they raised their two children. Through her experiences as a mother and volunteer youth leader for a local English speaking church, Mei found her passion in helping teens succeed in life.
In her free time, Mei enjoys singing, exercising outdoors, and organizing social events in her communities.
Teacher of English as a Second language and US History
Gabe was born and raised in Northern Kentucky. After graduating high school from Heritage Christian Academy, he served as a volunteer teacher and worker in Grenada (West Indies) for two years. Upon his return, Gabe attended Nyack College, and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English with a Concentration in TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages).
Gabe has taught 8th grade English and U.S. History for five years in Newark Public Schools in New Jersey. About 70% of his students are bilingual, most of whom consider English to be their second language. With up to 90% of his students passing state examinations over his 5 year career, Gabe’s track record shows that he excels at teaching English Language Learners (ELL).
Gabe and his wife, Ashley, have three children, Jack, Lucy, and Gabe. They live in Rockland County, New York. Gabe loves to sing and plays several musical instruments. He leads his church’s worship team.
English Writing Teacher
Matthew is a junior at McGill University in Montreal, Canada majoring in English Literature. A poet at heart, Matt has had his poetry selected for a national student poetry competition, hosted by the Live Poet’s Society.
Matt has worked at a local newspaper as both an editor and a writer, and has had several of his articles published. Currently, he serves as a journal editor of Fields/Terrains, the Anthropology students’ journal at McGill University.
Prior to enrolling at McGill, Matt attended an Advanced Creative Writing Summer Program at Columbia University in New York City.
Outside of his studies and writing, Matt’s passion is visual art. He loves to draw and paint to express his artistic insight.
English Writing Teacher
Danielle began her teaching career immediately after graduating Magna Cum Laude from Siena College in 2007. Over the past seven years, Danielle has taught English at different levels including high school honors English courses for three years.
Danielle enjoys teaching very much, and has demonstrated ability to teach students at different levels, both in classroom and individually. She remarks, “Having the opportunity to plan for varying levels has prepared me immensely to handle the different needs of my students. Whether I am teaching an Honors level course or co-teaching a class with students who have multiple learning delays, I feel I am adequately prepared to provide my students with the best education possible. They bring me great joy, and it is an honor and privilege to walk alongside them in their educational journey.”
English Conversation Specialist
Jim is a native English speaker born in Lowell, Mass. and raised in New Jersey. He graduated with honors from the State University of New York at New Paltz with a degree in journalism in 2010.
Jim is the managing editor of the Pascack Valley Community Life newspaper. He formerly worked as an editor for patch.com and his writing has appeared in various other newspapers and magazines. His writing has won several awards, including a Gold Key from Scholastic Books.
Jim splits his time between Bergen County, N.J. and Rockland County, N.Y. He enjoys hiking, reading, playing music and photography. He also blogs about various subjects in addition to his journalism
English Conversation Specialist
Jess was and raised in New York. She has a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies from the State University of New York at Purchase. Currently, Jess attends the Alliance Graduate School of Counseling specializing in a Mental Health counseling towards a master’s degree.
Jess lives in New York. Gifted in photography, Jess works as photographer in New York. Jess looks forward to meeting you onine.
